Behaviour & Community
These guidelines apply across the Moss SMP Minecraft server and its community spaces. Treat other players with respect and help keep Moss welcoming, safe, and fair.
Agreement and general conduct
1.1Acceptance of terms
By joining and remaining on the server, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to follow these rules, the Terms of Service, and the Anti-Harassment Policy.
1.2Mutual respect
Treat all members and staff with courtesy. Constructive discussions and debates are welcome, but personal attacks, harassment, bullying, and intentional trolling or provocation are strictly prohibited.
1.3Hate speech
Do not use language or share content that promotes discrimination, hatred, or violence against individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, origin, religion, disability, gender, sexual orientation, or any other protected characteristic.
1.4Personal attacks and safety
Threatening or ridiculing others, encouraging self-harm, and sharing private real-life information without explicit consent are strictly forbidden. Private information includes photos, phone numbers, addresses, social media profiles, school or workplace locations, and IP addresses. Doxing will result in an immediate permanent ban.
1.5Impersonation
Do not pretend to be another user, staff member, or public figure in order to deceive or mislead others.
Content restrictions
1.6NSFW content
NSFW or sexually explicit content is not permitted. This includes explicit language, non-consensual sexual images, and unwelcome sexual advances. Violations will result in an immediate permanent ban.
1.7Illegal activities and harmful links
Do not share, promote, or encourage illegal activities, including pirated content or illicit drug use. Never share links to malware, viruses, phishing sites, or disturbing or violent content.
1.8Spam and advertising
Do not repeatedly post irrelevant messages, disrupt the flow of chat, rage excessively, or publish unsolicited advertisements. Advertising other servers or services requires approval from the owner. Promote towns and nations only in designated channels.
1.9Real-money trading
Selling in-game items, currency, or services for real-world money is strictly prohibited.
Griefing and property
Enforcement note: penalties may include mutes, temporary bans, or permanent bans depending on the severity and context of a violation.
1.10Malicious destruction
Traditional griefing, including carpet bombing, TNT cannons, and malicious lava or water casting, is strictly prohibited.
1.11Town rules and disputes
Damage to structures within a town or nation is governed by that town's individual rules. Staff are not responsible for resolving internal town disputes or the consequences of town residency and permissions.
Stealing and raiding
1.12External raiding
Stealing from and raiding rival players, towns, or nations is permitted where allowed by server mechanics.
1.13Internal theft
Stealing from fellow town residents is strongly discouraged, but town mayors and authorities are responsible for managing internal theft. Towns are expected to use in-game commands and permissions to protect their assets.
Player etiquette and onboarding
1.14Welcoming new players
New players may not yet know the available resources, commands, and mechanics. Welcome them with guidance rather than hostility.
1.15Spawn camping
Mass-killing or repeatedly targeting new players at spawn is forbidden. Lifesteal mechanics are an exception only when the engagement takes place outside the general spawn zone.
Prohibitions & Fair Play
These rules protect fair gameplay and server stability. Exploits, unfair modifications, service disruption, and prohibited forms of griefing are not tolerated.
Exploits, glitches, and duping
2.1Benefiting from infractions
Players who knowingly benefit from another player's rule-breaking, exploits, glitches, or hacks will be punished as if they committed the violation themselves.
2.2Technical errors and game glitches
Do not take advantage of server bugs, technical oversights, or vanilla game glitches such as block glitching. Report any bug you find to staff immediately.
2.3Duplication
All money and resources must be acquired legitimately through mining, trading, farming, or intended server mechanics. Duplicating items or knowingly accepting duplicated items will result in an immediate wipe of all combined assets, money, and wealth, including personal balances and town and nation banks. Most cases will also result in a permanent ban.
Modifications, clients, and cheating
2.4Unfair advantages and hacked clients
Using a client, mod, resource pack, shader pack, macro, or external software to gain an advantage that is unavailable in a normal, unmodified vanilla game is considered cheating. Hacked clients and gameplay-altering macros will result in a temporary or permanent ban.
2.5Allowed modifications
Modifications that only improve performance or provide cosmetic or basic HUD features are permitted. Examples include:
- OptiFine, Sodium, and other performance optimization mods
- Lunar Client and Badlion Client
- Litematica for schematics only; printer functions are banned
- Armor and effect status HUD mods
- Minimalist minimaps
Minimap features must not display more information or radar data than is already publicly available through the server's BlueMap.
Network integrity and server disruption
2.6Intentional lag and service disruption
Do not intentionally harm Moss SMP services through DDoS attacks, chat spam, Discord raids, lag machines, or any other malicious method. Unauthorized or harmful access may be logged in detail and reported to relevant internet service providers and authorities.
Griefing and property regulations
2.7Liquid griefing and lava casting
Griefing with lava, water, or lava casts is strictly forbidden. This applies to griefing outside Towny borders and to intentionally spreading hazards such as fire or fluids from inside a town into unclaimed territory.
2.8Livestock and passive mob claims
Mass-killing peaceful mobs such as villagers, cows, pigs, sheep, or chickens inside another player's claim is treated as an internal town dispute. If a player can kill your animals, it is a consequence of your town residency or permissions management and is not a staff issue. You may kill mobs within your own claims; secure your permissions carefully.
Limits & Special Systems
These rules cover high-risk zones, account limits, marketplace activity, player shops, naming conventions, and other systems that need additional safeguards.
Envoy zones
Envoys take place in high-risk, PvP-enabled zones for limited periods. By entering an envoy zone, you accept the risk of combat and item loss. You may leave instead of fighting. When an envoy session ends, items lost on death cannot be recovered by teleporting back. The following rules govern post-death interactions.
3.1Death chest protection
After being killed, you may return and retrieve your death chest without being harmed.
3.2Prohibited loot camping
Do not prevent a player from recovering their loot or attack them the moment they close their death chest. Players must receive a fair grace period before re-entering PvP conditions.
3.3No immunity exploitation
A dead player may not use post-death immunity to gain an advantage. Do not use the retrieval grace period to scout, block, or interfere with active combatants.
3.4No envoy-snipe exploits
Do not target envoys after death to steal envoy loot or credit under the guise of loot-retrieval immunity. You may resume fighting only after fully recovering your death chest and deliberately re-entering the battle.
Alternative accounts
Account limits keep the server economy fair and prevent resource hoarding.
3.5Account limit
Each physical player may use a maximum of one Java account and one Bedrock account.
3.6Permitted cross-play use
Your Bedrock account should primarily be used for mobile or cross-play access. Using multiple accounts to bypass AFK timers, multiply daily rewards, or hoard land claims will result in all associated accounts being banned.
3.7Main-account migration
You may permanently migrate or switch your main account between platforms, such as moving from Bedrock Edition to Java Edition.
Auction House
The Auction House (AH) is a public utility. Keep it clean and functional.
3.8Appropriate auction naming
Custom names and lore on items listed in the Auction House must follow the community guidelines. Offensive words, slurs, and inappropriate jokes are not permitted.
3.9Legitimate auction transactions
The Auction House is for trading real items. Do not list junk items, such as a single piece of dirt, for millions of coins to transfer money between accounts or players. Do not use the Auction House to advertise services, warps, or external links.
Player shops and warps
A thriving player-driven economy depends on honest listings and safe shop access.
3.10Fair trading
Price gouging is allowed, but intentionally tricking players is not.
3.11No scams or shop traps
The item displayed on a shop sign or chest menu must exactly match what the buyer receives. Misrepresenting an ordinary iron sword as a special "God Sword," for example, is a bannable offense.
Do not place hidden trapdoors, lava drops, or similar traps near a shop warp to kill customers and steal their gear.
3.12Appropriate shop naming
Shop names, warp descriptions, and advertising text in chat must remain family-friendly.
Town and nation names
Staff may change a town or nation name that violates these guidelines without prior warning.
3.13Town names
Creative, historical, and entirely fictional town names are encouraged. Town names must not:
- Contain inappropriate, offensive, toxic, or derogatory language
- Be identical or highly similar to an established town name
- Intentionally confuse players or imitate another town's identity
3.14Nation names
Fictional, fantasy, historical, and geopolitical nation names are permitted. Nation names must:
- Remain family-friendly and avoid offensive, toxic, or sensitive real-world political or cultural slurs
- Be distinct and easily distinguishable from existing nations and towns to prevent diplomatic confusion
Item and equipment names
All custom-named items created through anvils, plugins, or mods must remain welcoming and readable. These rules apply to weapons, tools, armor, blocks, and miscellaneous items.
3.15No hate speech or slurs
Names containing derogatory language, racial, gender, or sexual slurs, or symbols associated with hate groups are strictly forbidden. Violations will result in immediate item confiscation and may result in a temporary or permanent ban depending on severity.
3.16Keep names appropriate
Avoid explicit, highly vulgar, or sexual references. Keep swear words to an absolute minimum and never use them to target or harass another player. A name such as "The Decapitator" is acceptable; a sexually explicit name is not.
3.17No staff or server impersonation
Do not name items in a way that falsely suggests they are official server rewards, admin tools, custom plugin items, or staff-endorsed items. Forbidden examples include [Admin Tool], [Owner Pick], [Server Event Reward], and names that use a staff member's identity to imply endorsement.
3.18No chat flooding or formatted trolling
Do not use color or formatting codes such as & or ยง in ways that disrupt the game interface or chat. Prohibited uses include:
- The magic or obfuscated code (
&k) used to create long, unreadable, flashing text - Extremely long names designed to stretch across the screen when held
3.19Weapon names and player-kill messages
Custom weapon names can appear in public death messages. Make sure they comply with chat-safety rules when broadcast publicly, and never use an item name to bypass chat filters.
3.20Enforcement and reporting
Staff have the final say on whether an item name crosses the line. If a staff member flags an item, comply by removing the name with a grindstone or renaming it appropriately.
If you see an inappropriate item name, take a screenshot and submit a ticket in the Moss Discord. Do not engage or argue in public chat.
Reporting & enforcement
Report suspected violations through the Moss Discord using the appropriate support or report channel. Include useful evidence and do not argue about reports in public chat.
Staff consider severity, context, and prior violations when applying penalties. Actions may include item or asset removal, mutes, temporary bans, permanent bans, or other restrictions needed to protect the community and server.
